About Our Shop in Smithville, OH

Meet the Experts at Roth's Auto Repair

Humble Beginnings

Those who have been with Roth’s Auto Repair in Smithville, Ohio since our start in 1986 remember when our services were offered on our family farm. It was the place where our neighbors could come to get their car, truck, or tractor fixed! A two-bay garage and small office shed next door served as our auto repair shop for 20 years until we moved our operation into a large, modern facility in 2007. We are proud of the customer base we created in that time and in the decade since opening our new location. We are proud to serve our community and keep them safe on the road! Above everything, we are proud to be the team that families trust with their vehicles.

For over 30 years, we have continued to grow and expand our automotive services. As our community of drivers grows, so does our facility. We are always adding new technology to speed up our services, investing in our technicians’ training to ensure accuracy of repairs, and expanding our staff so every guest that enters our shop is well cared for. We do what it takes to provide high-quality auto care in our area. We’ve always understood that the job isn’t done unless it’s done right, and that’s something we work towards every day. Our team of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified technicians is dedicated to performing repairs right the first time. Get to know the individuals that make our shop the leading automotive resource in Smithville, Ohio!

Meet Our Team

LaMont & Vickie Roth – Owners

LaMont & Vickie Roth are the founders and owners of Roth’s Auto Repair, Inc. in Smithville, OH. What began as a tractor and auto repair business in 1986, soon transitioned to strictly automotive service and repair. In the fall of 2007, LaMont & Vickie moved the business from the family farm to their present location on Apple Creek Road. LaMont is an ASE Master Certified Automotive Technician with over 35 years’ experience in the industry and continues to attend classes in order to keep up with the quickly changing vocation of automotive repair.  He oversees daily operations on the shop floor and is still actively involved in the diagnosing and repair of vehicles. Vickie has a background in customer service and enjoys meeting and greeting customers. Today she spends most of her time managing the office and sometimes steps back into her previous role of Service Writer when needed.

When asked what has motivated LaMont and Vickie to get up in the morning and do what they do day in and day out, their answer is, “the alarm clock!”  On a more serious note, they said, “Roth’s Auto Repair is not only a means to provide for our family, but it serves as a way for us to contribute to our society and local community by providing honest and dependable automotive service and repair at a fair price. When assessing a vehicle 3 things should apply to every recommendation and estimate that is given:  it has to be good for the customer, good for the car, and good for the company.” They believe when all 3 of those criteria are met it’s a win-win for everyone!

Faith, Family, and friends, are important to LaMont & Vickie. They attend and are members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Sterling.  Wayne County has always been their home and where they raised their two sons, Curtis & Kellen. Curtis received a Commercial Music degree from Belmont University, is working in the music industry and currently resides in Nashville, TN. Kellen obtained a degree in interior design from Kent State University. He is currently working for Vocon in Cleveland and serves as an adjunct professor at Kent State University. He and his wife, Katie, reside in Wooster, OH.

A recent trip out west has stoked the flames to travel more. If LaMont & Vickie could go back in time and change one thing they would take time away from building their business and travel with their kids more. Balancing work and time with family is a real struggle but one that they believe is more important now than ever.  They enjoy camping, and are currently seeking some new hobbies as empty nesters!

Eric: Service Manager

Eric Miller’s career in the automotive industry began when he was just a teen. From humble beginnings doing yard work and other miscellaneous chores at an independent repair shop, came the opportunity to obtain the role of Service Advisor, and he jumped at the chance! He admits that he was “completely inexperienced and knew nothing about cars”, but he soon learned that it was more important to “know people”.

Eric spent the next 25 years successfully working for various foreign and domestic dealerships, receiving continual customer service training. However, he began to notice that the industry was changing and the morale of his teammates left much to be desired. He really wanted a change… In early 2018 an employment advertisement that popped up on his phone led him to Roth’s Auto Repair, and he was hired as the Service Manager. He is back in an independent repair facility and couldn’t be happier. He says he “knows people, not cars, and he loves helping them”!

Outside of the shop Eric is a busy dad to 2 teenagers. He’s a football fanatic and coaches in the local youth program. He also enjoys working out at the gym in an attempt to “stay young”, as well as making homemade salsa and being with friends and family. He is also excited to have “found a new desire to learn about Jesus and truly believes that he can do all things through Christ who gives him strength.”

Bill: Technician

Bill Swiger joined Roth’s Auto Repair in the summer of 2013. With over 30 years of automotive repair experience, most of his time has been spent working for independent shop owners. Bill looks out for the interest of his customers and takes pride in his work. In order to keep up with the ever-changing industry, Bill continues to hone his skills through online classes and hands on training.

Family, friends and country are important to Bill. He has raised 2 adult sons, Chris & Tim, and he now enjoys his 2 grandchildren. Not only is he a good dad and grandpa but also a remarkable son as he tends to the needs of his mom, which speaks volumes of his character! Bill also proudly served in the United States Army from 1987-1994 and was stationed in Korea during 4 of those years.

When not turning a wrench or diagnosing a check engine light Bill can be found riding his motorcycle, hunting with his friends, fishing with his mom or dad, or sleeping in his Lazyboy! Bill also enjoys cooking for his family and is a grill master when it comes to pulled pork!

Shae: Office Assistant

Shae is LaMont & Vickie’s niece and has been part of the Roth’s Auto team since 2006. While her duties have evolved over the years, she currently assists with accounting, payroll, advertising, and customer retention.

Shae, husband Derick, and daughters Aubrey & Reiley attend Wooster Church of the Nazarene. When not volunteering at her daughters’ school or in children’s ministry at church, she enjoys sports, jigsaw puzzles, and the challenge of finding a great deal!

Terry: Maintenance

After more than 40 years in the customer service industry, Terry’s “retirement” includes helping out around the shop. He can be found tending to the lawn and landscaping, cleaning the inside of the building, helping with filing, and running for parts and shuttling customers. When an extra pair of hands is needed, he’s the go-to guy!

He and his wife Carol Ann are members of West Hill Baptist Church. They have 2 daughters, Teri Ann & Shae, and keep busy with the activities of their 5 grandchildren. “Papa” as he is fondly referred to, enjoys sports and being outdoors. But when it’s cold and raining, you can also find him enjoying a TV game show or improving his Candy Crush score!
